The food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the fuel for our car and home, the electricity for our laptop and ipod and cell phone, the materials in our flat screen tv and in our water bottle and our clothing and even the medicines and herbal supplements we take depend upon the integrity of Earth’s basic ecosystems. This course is designed to describe Earth’s basic ecosystems (energy sources,constituent materials, inhabitants, relationships among these inhabitants) and the ways in which these systems change and adapt over time. At the same time we will explore the difficulty of evaluating the cost to Earth’s basic ecosystems of our life choices (what to eat, where to live, how to get about, how to spend our spare time, how to make a living). We will attempt to better understand why many humans are making choices that threaten the long-term survival (sustainability) of Earth’s ecosystems.
Our ultimate goal is to have the necessary information to be able to adapt our life choices in ways that will benefit the sustainability of Earth’s ecosystems and thus of our own species.
IN THIS BLOG WE INTEGRATE AND ANALYZE WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED, AND OUR THOUGHTS AND REACTIONS TO THAT INFORMATION, FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE ELEMENT OF “FIRE”.
Our ultimate goal is to have the necessary information to be able to adapt our life choices in ways that will benefit the sustainability of Earth’s ecosystems and thus of our own species.

ReplyDeleteIf you are trying to beat capitalism down then...well move to another country. Capitalism has given this world freedom, yes it is cut throat but so is just surviving in this world. It is a natuaral instinct to want to be the fittest possible in your niche, it ensures that what you have ccreated will be passed on. Capitalism is human instict, socialism well that is for the weak.
Capitalism is like Darwin's survival of the fitest in an economic perpective. Only those businesses willing to compete and weed out the failures that do not derserve to "pass on there company to the next generation" then the economy would be sick. More sick then it is now.
