How to sustain the earth while using the ecosystem?

In the article it mentions that we the people are using the earth's basic resources from its ecosystem but at the same time we are also destroying the earth in order for us to survive. For us to carry out our daily life processes we are sometimes polluting the earth unknowingly. Is there truly a way in which we can all live our lives without harming the environment?
