I'm Dreaming of a GREEN Christmas

In a nation that uses more energy than almost any other nation, we need to cut down. With the holidays just around the corner, we should think GREEN. The holidays are the main season for shopping and excessive garbage. All of the wrapping paper that is disposed of in the United States during the holiday season could probably fill a landfill. However, I found an interesting website that gives great ideas for cutting down during the holidays.
The first thing we can do is buy less. For instance, instead of buying good we can buy gift certificates and services. My mother for example loves to buy American Express gift certificates and gift certificates for massages as gifts. They are practical, and the recipient is guaranteed to love it.
Another thing we can do is wrap less. For instance, my parents always find new and creative ways to wrap presents for my brothers and sisters and me. One year, they put all of our gifts in a duffle-bag which saved time and money on gift wrapping; not to mention was less to dipose of and very GREEN.
Next, we can save energy. We can reduce the amount of lights on both outdoor and indoor displays. You can also use LED lights, which use up to 95% less energy than other holiday lights. Also, do not leave lights on all day and all night, as this is a huge waste of energy.
Lastly, we should learn to buy smarter. When possible, buy recycled products and non-battery operated gifts, as well as buying locally based products to support your local marketplace.
In conclusion, do not let what we learned this semester go to waste. As we know, with the holiday season comes higher electricity bills and higher credit card bills. Use these tips to have money and help save the environment.
