Over the break we where asked to get info three items that can be purchased on campus. Well being that I don't live on campus I chose to look into the vending in the lecture center. The company that supplies and furnishes the vending machine and I believe most of the beverage machines is locally know as Canteen Vending but was bought out by Next Generation Vending Inc. This company has a good amount of business in the capital region. They also have multiple set ups in all the Price Chopper Facilities.
I encourage everyone who buys from these machines to check out their web site listed below. This company stock items based on sales. If you buy it they will carry it. For example if they put peanut M&M's in the machine and they sell out in one day they will keep carrying them if they don't move they will be left for a certain period of time then never stocked again. The machines are typically serviced on MON. WED. and FRI.
They have green products and use energy star machines. They are trying to offer healthier choices as well. On there web site there is a Green tab that will tell all their attempts of being a Green company. Also there is a tab that will tell about their product selection and attempts to supply healthier choices.
I chose to put out this info on the lecture center vending after class yesterday. Even with web sites like good guide the bottom line is that in today's fast pace hurry hurry society we need and look for quick cheap items that taste good and satisfy hunger in a hurry. Unfortunately most of the food that will stay for a few days or longer in a machine is not going to be fresh and healthy. Its a hard spot to be in, your hungry and have no time to get a healthy meal and say you have only $2 in your pocket. What do you do? Looks like the vending machine wins. What we can do is maybe work with the company to get the healthiest choices available and limit consumption.
