Save yourself and the World

The guest speaker Professor Kleppel that came to class on Monday November 2nd pointed out a lot of key points about the life that we are living today. He lives on a farm with his wife and uses old technology. He feels that he and his wife are saving themselves then going on to helping others afterwards. We cannot save others without saving ourselves. He feels like we should connect with the land. Eat better, and eat fresher fruits. He gave several valid tips for things we can control. We can save our stuff, energy wage, food, and participate. We should eat more locally used foods. Food produced by local farmers meaning in your immediate area which is within like 105 miles of yourself. We should eat locally because much of the food we what we eat is not safe. A lot of the meat we eat is produced from animals that are abused. I feel like these are things we are never shown and just won’t really care about because people are still going to eat regardless. Whatever is appealing to them is what they are going to eat it usually doesn’t matter what happened before the fact.

I agree with the Professor Kleppel’s lifestyle. It makes me want to eat healthier but it is really hard to eat locally. E. coli is when we take animals and force feed them the rumen becomes acidic. This happens on farms that use poor farming methods. People usually say eating locally is much more expensive. Everyone wants what is easier to access and usually what is cheaper. If eating locally was better for everyone there would be a lot more people doing so. It is easier for people who are really into this lifestyle in my opinion. Also a lot of people are not educated on things like this. As we spoke about in class there should be more classes about this to help us better our environment and how we eat and ways to go about doing so. It really is not that hard or at least it seems that way. If we were better educated I think a lot more people would try to eat locally. It would have to be known a lot more. Processed foods are easy to access so local foods really have to work hard to be noticed.
