Veteran's Day Assignment

The Rebound Effect is also called the take-back effect in which refers to the behavior or systemic responses to the introduction of new technologies, or other measures taken to reduce resource use. But Jevon's Paradox contradicts this rebound effect in which William Stanly Jevon mentions in his book written in 1865 titled the Coal Question that technological progress that increases the efficiency with which a resource is used, tends to increase rather than decrease the rate of consumption of that resource. Some examples of the rebound effect is cheaper steel, in which industries would purchase cheaper steel, thereby lead to the increase of the amount of steel being produced and the number of construction projects in which it can be used. Another example includes people who drive more regularly because their fuel-efficient cars are cheaper to run, leading to increase in carbon emissions. There is so much emphasis on consumer spending because once the people think that something is works and is good for the economy then everyone starts to buy it and as a result start to give off pollutants or carbon emissions. Its just the way of how supply and demand works, once a supply is cheap the demand for it goes up and vice verse. If consumers stopped spending so much then their money could go to good use and reduce the effects of the carbon footprint that they place on the environment. The "Sea of Selves" in which filmmaker Adam Curtis details in his four-hour BBC documentary titled Century of the Self (2002) Chronicles the systematic transformation of a society by corporate America into a sea of selves and how are steadfast refusal to surrender illusions of freedom for the sake of collective survival and well-being are conditioning us to fail. Meaning that our selfish needs are putting us in danger to survive in our environment as a whole. Bailey's notion of the civic an the divine relates to to the social aspects of our personalities. The civic alludes to the set of rights, obligations and responsibilities that bind the collective to the individual. The divine alludes to the notion of something greater than one's self and that the activities of the collective are significant in relation to the world. I think that the essay on Jeff Dardozzi hits the fact of the matter on the nose because the people are becoming to caught up in materialistic things and selfish needs such as who has the biggest car, or who has the best house that they are not taking the time out of their lives to accept the fact that the environment that we live in is crumpling all around them but they don't seem to care or realize that, and if they don't put their own wants aside then the needs for survival will be to great to meet. I think this assignment was due by Veteran's Day because you can probably use the veteran's as an example in the rebound effect or about what Dardozzi meant. The veterans put their lives on the line to protect a greater amount of people, that they don't necessary focus on materialistic ambitions or wants that they focus rather on the safety of the society. And if people had the same mentality of treating one another with respect and helping one another then we would have a long lasting world to live peaceful in.
