Veteran's Day Assignment

The Rebound Effect is basically conserving and can be related to the green market. It brings to the table new forms of technology that helps to reduce the use of resources. Basically the improvement of energy conservation. For example we eat low-fat yogurt because it is low fat but knowing this we eat more because it has less fat. Another example is the people that use the green market being that they feel they are saving the earth by using let’s say for example green paper towel. They may end up using a lot of it but still feel they are doing the right thing because they “go green” Jevons paradox is the opposite of the Rebound Effect. It states that the increase of resource leads to an increase of consumption. The more efficient use of oil may increase the demand for oil.
There seems to be a lot of emphasis on consumer spending because people tend to money to keep up with what is going on. Let it be good or bad for the economy most times consumer do not care they just purchase to keep up with society and what is going on. If consumers stop spending so much the economy could lose out on a lot of money. Most businesses are still running because of how many consumers they have, if that were to change they can go out of business or wont thrive as much as they choose to.
The “sea of selves” BBC documentary Century of the Self (2002) was written to show that we had the freedom to essentially consume as much as we want. For example you do not want to risk any responsibility on your healthcare options. You have an illusion of having real freedom. It is saying that people are selfish and think for themselves and not for the environment.
The Tactical Uses of Passion (1983) was the alternative to glooming. Bailey believed that civic and divine described a person’s personality. Civic was a set of rights and responsibilities related to the individual. Divine relates to higher level of change higher than oneself it’s more related to the world. It is beyond just saving yourself. He believed that the way to get people out of feeling gloomy is to change the views on civic and divine.
Jeff Dardozzi essay was gave great examples of how society is today. We have changed tremendously and have become accustomed to certain lifestyles that it would be extremely difficult to change.
November 11, 2009 we honor our fallen soldiers and remember those that fought during the World Wars. We have to honor those who fought to better our country. I feel that this assignment was due today so we can relate it to what we learned about in class. We as a country I feel do not remember our soldiers that fought for us. People usually cannot wait for this day for the day off of work or school and they also advertise great sales “Veterans Day Sale” so its no longer remember the soldiers people use it to their own benefit and forget the real meaning of this day.
